Chevrolet confirmed on Thursday that the 2013 Corvette will be the final year for the sixth generation of its iconic sports car, which it will send off with a 427 convertible collector's edition and a 60th-anniversary package. We first saw the Porsche 918 Spyder at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010; a hybrid supercar offering a gazillion miles to the gallon, Carrera GT levels of performance and fresh air from the exhaust pipe. The automotive equivalent of having your cake and eating it. By April last year our sources were telling us the 918 Spyder would go in to production after Porsche received 900 serious intents of interst on the car, and in June Porsche themselves confirmed the 918 Spyder would be built in limited numbers – just 918 cars for the world.
Volkswagen has unveiled the US version of the Passat at the 2011 Detroit auto show. VW’s European customers won’t be able to buy it, but will be interested in the price: despite being longer and wider than the car offered in Europe it will start from just £13,000 before taxes for a 168bhp five-cylinder petrol. The nearest petrol Passat costs £19,529 in the UK.
